At LivingInteriors, the pioneers of the smart homes present the advantages that networking can already offer today.
Whether the telephone, the computer or even the railroad, the importance of great technological revolutions is often recognised at a late date. The reason for this is found in the nature of human beings: imagination is required to recognise potential, and one must be aware of the possibilities offered by certain technologies. The branch has long been interested in the theme of "smart homes", and many companies have already developed solutions and products for the intelligent networking of living concepts. LivingInteriors now clearly and attractively shows how these individual developments interlock in the smart home and simplify the lives of its inhabitants: the clever home with digital networking options for the individual, society and the economy.
The possibilities are extremely diverse: for example, the blinds can be opened or the light switched on when you are not at home in order to create the appearance that someone is home and scare off burglars. The heat can be turned up on the way home from work, so that you are welcomed by cosy warmth upon arrival at home. Likewise, the heat automatically turns off as soon as everybody has left the house. The oven display as the central control point for all networked household devices uses the SuperVision application. For example, the remaining cycle time of the washing machine in the utility room can be read in the oven display, or the fume extractor hood automatically adapts to the actual cooking activity. In practical terms this means that the performance level of the exhaust hood changes with the performance required.
These are just a few examples of the kind of services a house is capable of providing when outfitted with the industry’s latest innovations. In order to show the entire range of possibilities, the organisers of the special show have created the basic construction of a home with various rooms within hall 4.2. The participating companies then present their solutions in the various rooms.
With Miele, one of the pioneers of networked solutions is involved: already in 1998, the traditional company presented its first networked household devices and today has an extensive assortment of market-ready solutions for the networked house in its programme. In addition to Miele, the following companies have also announced their participation: BMW, Grohe, HFH, Marantec, Mennekes, Nolte Küchen, SNOM, Rheinenergie, Sens Floor and Vodafone.
The services presented extend from sensitive floors through lighting solutions, white goods and solar systems to telecommunications solutions and smart cars. In combination, the special exhibition makes clear that smart home solutions are much more than technical gadgetry: money can be saved with them in the energy area. They can even save the lives of people requiring help. And in combination they provide something that is at the top of the wish list of most people: more convenience and comfort.
