Su presidente, el español Mariano José Pérez Campos, subraya la importancia estratégica de este nuevo emplazamiento por su cercanía a las instituciones europeas.

La asociación europea de centros de investigación y formación en el sector de la madera y el mueble, InnovaWood, ha trasladado su sede a Bruselas, abandonando su anterior emplazamiento en Dublín para situarse en pleno corazón de la Unión Europea. Los motivos de este cambio no son casuales, sino que responden a la voluntad de esta asociación de  permanecer cerca de las instituciones europeas y otros cuerpos políticos en un momento crítico para el futuro del sector.

Según su presidente Mariano Pérez Campos, quien también dirige AIDIMA (Instituto Tecnológico del Mueble, Madera, Embalaje y Afines), “es en estos momentos de crisis económica cuando Innovawood más ha de respaldar al sector de la madera, trabajando conjuntamente entre sus miembros, con la plataforma tecnológica forestal y con las asociaciones empresariales, para tratar de mitigar los efectos negativos de la actual situación en las empresas manufactureras”. En este sentido, Pérez Campos ha puesto de manifiesto  la importancia de mantener la inversión constante en educación, investigación e innovación para que la UE siga manteniendo una posición de liderazgo en la industria procedente del sector forestal: la madera, el embalaje, el mueble, etc.

Al acto de inauguración de la nueva sede asistieron el Director General de la Delegación de la Comunitat Valenciana en Bruselas, Juan Manuel Revuelta, también presidente del comité ejecutivo de ERRIN; así como varios representantes de la Comisión Europea y otros altos responsables de las patronales europeas del sector forestal, de la madera y el mueble.
