Pedro Arcas, presidente de AREMA, intervino en Bruselas sobre las Indicaciones Geográficas de Productos no Alimentarios.

Una indicación geográfica es un signo utilizado para productos que tienen un origen geográfico concreto y cuyas cualidades, reputación y características se deben esencialmente a su lugar de origen. El Comité Económico y Social Europeo apoya la ampliación de la protección de las indicaciones geográficas (IG) a productos no agrícolas por medio de un reglamento único de la UE, al considerar que aportará una protección valiosa y necesaria a las empresas que han acreditado una capacidad de estimular el crecimiento económico y la innovación, además de generar puestos de trabajo muy cualificados y mejor remunerados.

Este ha sido básicamente el objetivo de AREMA al participar en esta reunión en Bruselas, celebra el 1 de octubre: el mueble de la región se beneficiaría de una protección comunitaria de forma reglada que permitiría competir de forma clara con aquellos que utilizan prácticas no adecuadas en la fabricación de mobiliario, posicionándolo de forma ventajosa frente a la competencia con un reconocimiento a la correcta gestión, la calidad y el buen hacer de las empresas de la zona.

AREMA consciente de que es importante apoyar a los fabricantes en cualquier espacio que sea posible, además de participar en dicha reunión se reunió también con la CROEM (Confederación Regional de organizacionjes Empresariales de Murcia) para evidenciar cuáles son las necesidades del sector del mueble y solicitar su apoyo más intenso antes las diferentes administraciones. Jose María Albarracín, presidente de la CROEM y conocedor de la importancia del sector tomo nota de las peticiones más urgentes de los empresarios del mueble para buscar las mejores soluciones; por sau parte, Pedro Arcas afirmó que el objetivo prioritario de la Asociación es defender a sus asociados y las peticiones de éstos, por lo que agradece a la CROEM su apoyo incondicional que en tantas ocasiones le ha demostrado.

AREMA, la Asociación Regional del Mueble y la Madera de Murcia, fundada en 1977, representa a un sector que cuenta en la región con alrededor de 1.545 empresas pertenecientes al clúster de la madera y el mueble. La cifra de negocio de este sector representa el 3% del sector industrial regional, y emplea a alrededor de 8.000 trabajadores. Su importancia y potencialidad en la economía regional es muy considerable.
