AEIM eleva el riesgo EUTR de Myanmar

AEIM ha elevado el riesgo, en su Sistema de Diligencia Debida (EUTR), de la madera de Myanmar, a consecuencia de un informe de la Agencia Internacional de Investigación Ambiental (EIA) que cuestiona la transparencia de su origen.

AEIM (Asociación Española del Comercio e Industria de la Madera) ha adoptado esa medida tras conocer un exhaustivo informe de la Agencia Internacional de Investigación Ambiental (EIA), que pone de manifiesto la falta de transparencia y corrupción en ese país ligada a la extracción de la madera.

El riguroso sistema de evaluación de riesgos, exigido por el EUTR y desarrollado por AEIM para sus empresas asociadas, es referente a nivel europeo y está en constante revisión, de acuerdo a los informes internacionales de prestigiosas organizaciones que investigan el problema de la tala ilegal a nivel mundial.

Por otra parte este país ha prohibido, desde el pasado 1 de Abril de 2014, la exportación de madera en tronco, para reducir la deforestación, favorecer la industria de transformación doméstica y obtener así mayores ingresos. Hasta la fecha la mayor parte de las exportaciones de madera en rollo (sobre todo de teca) tenían como principales destinos a China (1,2 millones de m3);,  Tailandia e India. En cuanto al mercado de la Unión Europea, las cifras importación de madera en tronco son muy reducidas: 4.732 m3 en 2013.
