AEIM se integra en Forest Legality Alliance

La Asociación Española del Comercio e Industria de la Madera (AEIM) ha entrado a formar parte de Forest Legality Alliance (FLA), una Red mundial dedicada a promover la legalidad forestal, con sede en Estados Unidos.

Esta Alianza es un proyecto común del Instituto de Recursos Mundiales (World Resources Institute, WRI) y la Agencia de Investigación Ambiental (EIA) con el apoyo de la Agencia Norteamericana de Desarrollo Internacional (US Aid).

AEIM se integra en Forest Legality Alliance

Para la consecución de sus objetivos, FLA lleva a cabo una serie de actividades, enfocadas a:

– La promoción de la demanda de productos forestales procedentes de fuentes legales y sostenibles.

– El  fortalecimiento de cadenas de suministro que excluyan del mercado los productos procedentes de talas ilegales.

Pertenecen a FLA más de 70 entidades de prestigio mundial, tanto organizaciones de conservación (ONGs), como empresas privadas, así como asociaciones de productores, de exportadores y comerciantes de productos forestales. También forman parte institutos tecnológicos, universidades, empresas de servicios y entidades del mundo científico.

Recientemente AEIM participó en un seminario sobre compra legal de productos forestales celebrado en México en el que se dio a conocer el Sistema de Diligencia Debida de esta organización, así como su análisis de riesgos, según las exigencias del EUTR (Reglamento Europeo de la Madera).

Según Chip Barber, Senior Manager del World Resources Institute, La integración de AEIM, principal organización del comercio de madera y derivados en España, supone para Forest Legality Alliance un importante impulso en la expansión de esta red mundial en el sur de Europa y también entre organizaciones de habla hispana, tan relevantes en el ámbito forestal, especialmente en América del Norte, Central y del Sur.

Para Alberto Romero, secretario general de la Asociación Española del Comercio e Industria de la Madera, Entrar a formar parte de esta organización mundial tan prestigiosa supone para AEIM el reconocimiento de todo el esfuerzo y trabajo que ha desarrollado durante muchos años en favor de la legalidad y sostenibilidad del comercio internacional de la madera, así como del riguroso Sistema de Diligencia Debida desarrollado para cumplir con las exigencias del EUTR.
